Dear Parents,

As ever, the first half term of the new year has flown by and we are approaching a nice mini-break. Our students have just returned from another successful Ski Trip where great fun was had in Sierra Nevada. I am sure that many of you will be heading up the mountain next week during Semana Blanca, so I wish you a pleasant holiday.

We have had lots to shout about in the past weeks, especially in the field of debating. Firstly, some of our talented Year 12 students attended the MEP (Modelo de Parlamento Europeo) event in Puerto de Santa Maria with Don Miguel and Srta Mari-Carmen, where we performed brilliantly, discussing proposals for the European Union. One of our students, Elena Gamero, was selected to go to the national event which will be held in Madrid next month. We wish her all the best and know that she will represent Swans in the best way. 

Mr King and Miss Kate Haycock accompanied a group of Year 10 and 11 students to Barcelona this month, to take part in the NESDA debate and public speaking event. Our students were tremendous and, amid a really tough field of high-performing schools, we won gold in every event. This is a first for us at Swans, so we are incredibly proud of the whole team, but the winners were: Chris Chabowski and Mikhail Shalashov won gold in Duet Acting, Olha Mudra won gold in impromptu speaking and Filippa Hafez, Olha Mudra and Darina Savina won gold in debating. It fills me with pride to see our school competing and winning on a national level in such an intense academic environment, which highlights the incredible talent of our students. A big thank you must also go to the staff who run debate competitions and attend these events to give the students these opportunities. 

We are now looking forward to lots of sporting events, including our own school sports day in Estepona on the last day of term and the footballers competing in the Med-Cup events in the coming months. I am sure that more news of our success will follow.

Estimados padres:

El primer semestre del año ha pasado volando, y ya nos acercamos a unas merecidas mini vacaciones. Nuestros alumnos acaban de regresar de un fantástico viaje de esquí a Sierra Nevada, y estoy seguro de que muchos de vosotros también disfrutaréis de la Semana Blanca en la sierra. Por ello, os deseo unas felices y relajadas vacaciones en familia.

Estas últimas semanas han estado llenas de logros y actividades destacables, especialmente en el ámbito del debate y la oratoria. Permítanme compartir algunas de estas noticias:

Modelo de Parlamento Europeo (MEP):
Un grupo de talentosos alumnos de Year 12, acompañados por Don Miguel y la Srta. Mari Carmen, participaron en el evento MEP en el Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz). Allí, debatieron diversas propuestas para la Unión Europea con un nivel excepcional. Nos enorgullece especialmente anunciar que nuestra alumna Elena Gamero ha sido seleccionada para representarnos en la sesión nacional, que tendrá lugar en Madrid el próximo mes de marzo. Estamos seguros de que hará un papel brillante y representará a Swans con gran distinción.

Competición NESDA en Barcelona:
Mr. King y Miss Kate Haycock acompañaron a un grupo de alumnos de Year 10 y 11 a Barcelona para participar en el prestigioso evento de debate y oratoria NESDA. Nuestros estudiantes demostraron un talento extraordinario, compitiendo en un entorno académico muy exigente y obteniendo resultados excepcionales: Chris Chabowski y Mikhail Shalashov ganaron la medalla de oro en actuación a dúo. Olha Mudra obtuvo el oro en oratoria improvisada. Filippa Hafez, Olha Mudra y Darina Savina se alzaron con el oro en debate. Este ha sido el primer año en que Swans participa en un evento de este nivel, y estamos inmensamente orgullosos de nuestros alumnos por su dedicación y excelencia. Quiero también agradecer al personal que ha organizado y apoyado estas actividades, brindando a nuestros estudiantes oportunidades tan enriquecedoras.

En las próximas semanas, tendremos una agenda repleta de competiciones y actividades deportivas. Destacamos nuestro Día del Deporte Escolar en las instalaciones de atletismo de Estepona, que tendrá lugar el último día del trimestre, así como la participación de nuestros futbolistas en el torneo Med-Cup en Italia. Estoy seguro de que pronto tendremos más noticias emocionantes que compartir.
