Dear Parents,

What a great term it has been at Swans! As the Christmas break approaches, I am filled with joy at the recent events we have hosted and how hard everyone has worked to make them happen.

Footloose!
The Swans Christmas production was once again a monster hit, with a packed-out Palacio getting down to some 80s classics and enjoying some excellent singing, dancing and acting from our amazing cast. I have to give such high praise to our Arts Team, Miss Kate (Head of Drama), Mr Tim (Head of Music) and Mr Malachi (Head of Art), along with Miss Lindsay, Miss Aisling, Mr Rob Hargreaves and Miss Jessica who work tirelessly throughout the term, after school and weekends, ensuring that our enormous cast (from Year 6 to Year 13) give the best performance that they can. This year was a wonderful show and everyone left on a real high before the final day. 

Christmas Fayre
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a lovely day of music and merriment. The sun returned this year and we enjoyed some great entertainment from different bands and singers, whilst enjoying some festive tapas and visiting Santa in his grotto. It is one of my favourite events of the year and a perfect chance to bring the Swans community together. 

Racing Car
We had excellent news from the race track in Cartagena this month, where Dr Darren York and Mr David Fletcher led a team to give our car its first competitive outing. We were thrilled to report that Swans gained a podium finish in third place out of ten teams, which is an outstanding achievement considering many of the other teams were from universities, with access to a higher budget and resources. The students had a wonderful time and it was a really exciting trip which we hope to repeat in the future. We will now be fine-tuning the car (which has been on display in reception) to push for first-place! Many thanks to the teachers who support this brilliant project, which is so inspiring to our students.  

Krakow Trip
I was fortunate enough to attend the History trip to Krakow in November, which was a wonderful experience. Expertly organised by Mr Phil Newton, we visited an amazing city with a rich history, the highlights being a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Death Camp, which was a truly emotional day for all of us, and the beautiful Salt Mines. The students (from Year 10 to Year 13) were a joy to spend time with and really contributed to making it a fun visit with their enthusiasm and humour. 

Inspection
At the end of November we had our four-year inspection by NABSS (the National Association of British Schools in Spain). We were visited by two experienced Headteacher inspectors from other parts of Spain who look at our facilities, the teaching and learning taking place and the general culture of our school. I am very pleased to say that they were very impressed with our school and the conduct of our students, and gave us some fantastic feedback. It was nice to gain this recognition and for them to see what I see on a daily basis; a happy school with committed teachers and ambitious students, who present themselves in the best way they can, all supported by the Swan-Liggan family and a wonderful maintenance team. In fact, their main recommendation for us was to ‘keep doing what we are doing’, so it was a very positive experience. 

Mock examinations
When we return from the break, the students in Year 11 and 13 will be undertaking their Mock examinations for (I)GCSE and IB, so we wish them the best of luck in their preparations during the holidays. The effort will all be worth it in the end!

Once again, the teachers have been nominating students for their successes this term and the list of nominees can be found here. This time the winners are:

Please note: The school will be closed from 23rd December until the Spring Term begins on the 8th January. The office will be open from the week commencing Tuesday 2nd January.

¡Qué gran trimestre hemos tenido en Swans! A medida que se acercan las vacaciones de Navidad, me siento orgulloso de poder mencionar los recientes eventos que hemos organizado, y lo duro que todos han trabajado para hacerlos realidad.

¡Footloose!
La producción navideña de Swans fue una vez más un gran éxito, con un Palacio repleto de personas escuchando algunos de los clásicos de los 80 y disfrutando de excelentes canciones, bailes y actuaciones de nuestro increíble reparto. Tengo que elogiar mucho a nuestro equipo artístico, Miss Kate (Jefa del Dpto. de Drama), Mr. Tim (Jefe del Dpto. de Música) y Mr. Malachi (Jefe del Dpto. de Arte), junto con Miss Lindsay, Miss Aisling, Mr. Rob Hargreaves y Miss Jessica, que trabajan incansablemente durante todo el trimestre, después del colegio, y los fines de semana, asegurándose de que nuestro enorme reparto (de Year 6 a Year 13) den lo mejor de sí. Este año ha sido un espectáculo maravilloso y todos salieron extasiados antes del último día.

 
Feria de Navidad
Gracias a todos los que nos acompañaron en un hermoso día de música y alegría. El sol volvió este año y disfrutamos de un gran entretenimiento con diferentes bandas y cantantes, mientras disfrutábamos de unas tapas y visitábamos a Papa Noel. Es uno de mis eventos favoritos del año y una oportunidad perfecta para unir a la comunidad de Swans.

 
Carrera de coches
Este mes tuvimos excelentes noticias desde la pista de carreras de Cartagena, donde Mr. Darren York y Mr. David Fletcher lideraron un equipo para poder participar en nuestra primera competición. Nos emocionó poder anunciar que Swans obtuvo un podio en el tercer lugar de diez equipos, lo cual es un excelente logro considerando que muchos de los otros competidores procedían de universidades, y tenían acceso a un presupuesto y recursos más elevados. Los estudiantes se lo pasaron estupendamente y fue un viaje muy emocionante que esperamos repetir en el futuro. Ahora perfeccionaremos el coche (que ha sido expuesto en la recepción del colegio) para luchar por el primer puesto. Muchas gracias a los profesores que han apoyado este brillante proyecto, que es tan inspirador para nuestros estudiantes. 

Viaje a Cracovia
Tuve la suerte de poder asistir al viaje de Historia a Cracovia en noviembre, que fue una experiencia maravillosa. Organizado muy profesionalmente por Mr. Phil Newton, visitamos una ciudad asombrosa con una rica historia, siendo lo más destacado la visita al campo de exterminio de Auschwitz-Birkenau. Fue un día verdaderamente emotivo para todos nosotros, además de ver las hermosas minas de sal. Fue un placer pasar tiempo con los estudiantes (de Year 10 a Year 13) que contribuyeron a que fuera una visita divertida con su entusiasmo y humor.

Inspección
A finales de noviembre tuvimos nuestra inspección cuatrienal por parte de NABSS (la Asociación Nacional de Colegios Británicos en España). Nos visitaron dos inspectores de otras partes de España con mucha experiencia, que vinieron a ver nuestras instalaciones, nuestros métodos de enseñanza y aprendizaje, así como la cultura general de nuestro colegio. Me complace mucho decir que quedaron muy impresionados con nuestro centro y la conducta de nuestros estudiantes. Todos los comentarios fueron muy positivos. Fue estupendo obtener este reconocimiento y que vieran lo que yo veo a diario; un colegio con profesores comprometidos y estudiantes ambiciosos, que se presentan de la mejor manera posible, todos respaldados por la familia Swan-Liggan y un maravilloso equipo de mantenimiento. De hecho, su principal recomendación para nosotros fue “seguir haciendo lo que estamos haciendo”, por lo que fue una experiencia muy positiva.
 
Simulacro de exámenes
Cuando regresemos de las vacaciones, los estudiantes de Year 11 y 13 realizarán su simulacro de exámenes (exámenes mock) para (I)GCSE y IB, por lo que les deseamos mucha suerte en sus preparativos durante las vacaciones. ¡Todo el esfuerzo al final valdrá la pena!
