Dear Parents

The first half term has flown by as always, with a packed agenda full of study, sport and trips. Our new staff and students have all been adapting to their new surroundings, and are no doubt feeling strange that they only started with us seven weeks ago, as it will feel like a lot longer. I thank them all for the positive contribution they have made to Swans so far and am grateful to everyone who has made them feel welcome.

Sport

With the glorious weather of the past two months, we have been fortunate enough to be involved in multiple sports tournaments, both locally, nationally and internationally. We recently had the amazing news that our U-13 Girls won the Laude Football Tournament, beating off tough opposition from other local schools to lift the trophy via a tense penalty shoot-out in the final. Congratulations to them for this amazing achievement.

The U-13 boys performed brilliantly in the World Schools Cup, held in Barcelona. They won their group and only conceded two goals in the entire tournament, narrowly losing in the semi-final to the eventual winners. This was made even more impressive by the fact that teams came from all over the world, with some from professional football academy schools, so the standard was very high and our third place was a great team effort. 

We will now turn our attention to the Mediterranean Cup in Verona, where our U-19 and U-15 Girls and Boys teams will do battle with other international schools, and we wish them all the best. 

In swimming, we came home with a host of medals from the EIC Gala, earning second place, with some brilliant individual performances and relay team races. Our Swim Squad is still so well attended and we hope to hear more about their successes throughout the year. 

EYP and Debating

Swans were very proud to play host to the European Youth Parliament National Conference for Spain, this month, with students from all over the country coming to our school to debate issues that affect the EU. The event was partly organised by some of our ex-students, who are still members of the organisation and are flown out to assist with the committees, even while they are studying at university. 

We will also once again be organising the Costa Schools Debate Competition, during the month of November, which encourages our students to compete against other local schools in the most intense environment. It is so impressive to see our students speaking in public with such authority and confidence, and I encourage more of the school to get involved in developing their skills.    

School Show

The cast list has been decided and the rehearsals have begun for Shrek - the musical, which will be our Christmas Show. Miss Kate, Mr Tim and the team are working tirelessly to ensure that this one is even better than last year (if that is even possible?!?) with the students spending most days after-school in the theatre learning songs, dance routines and lines. I am sure it will be spectacular, so save the date in your diaries for Thursday 14th December, at the Palacio de Congresos in Marbella.

On the subject of the school show, can I remind everyone that December will be a month without many school days, so we will be holding our Christmas Fayre on the earlier date of  Friday 1st December. We hope to see you all there. 

When we return, students will be expected to be wearing their school blazer every day (plus their jumper if they are cold), so can we all work together to ensure that they are looking smart each morning before they arrive, with respectable skirt-lengths, shirts tucked in and ties worn correctly. These rules apply for the whole time that students are wearing their school uniform, both in and out of school time. Our students represent us at all times whilst in uniform and reflect both us and you as parents in how they portray themselves.

As in every half term, the teachers have been recommending students for the Headteacher’s Award, and the list of nominees can be found here.

Estimados padres,

Como siempre, la primera parte del trimestre ha pasado volando, con una agenda repleta de eventos académicos, actividades deportivas y viajes. Nuestros nuevos alumnos y miembros del personal se han ido adaptando a su nuevo entorno, y sin duda les resultará extraño el haber  comenzado con nosotros hace sólo siete semanas, ya que les parecerá mucho más tiempo. Les doy las gracias a todos por la positiva contribución que han hecho a Swans hasta ahora y agradezco a todos aquellos que les han hecho sentirse bienvenidos.

Actividades deportivas

Con el buen tiempo que hemos tenido en los dos últimos meses, hemos tenido la suerte de participar en múltiples torneos deportivos, tanto locales como nacionales e internacionales. Recientemente tuvimos la increíble noticia de que nuestras chicas sub-13 ganaron el Torneo de Fútbol Laude, venciendo a otros colegios locales para finalmente levantar el trofeo después de una tensa tanda de penaltis en la final. Enhorabuena a todas ellas por este increíble logro.

Los chicos sub-13 tuvieron una actuación brillante en la Copa del Mundo Escolar, celebrada en Barcelona. Fueron los ganadores en su grupo y sólo encajaron dos goles en todo el torneo, perdiendo por un estrecho margen en la semifinal contra el equipo que resultó ganador en la  final. Nuestros estudiantes tuvieron un magnífico papel, teniendo en cuenta que participaron equipos de todo el mundo, con algunas academias de fútbol profesional, por lo que el nivel fue muy alto y nuestro tercer lugar fue un fantástico resultado. 

Ahora nos centraremos en la Copa del Mediterráneo de Verona, donde nuestros equipos femeninos y masculinos sub-19 y sub-15 se enfrentarán a otros colegios internacionales. Les deseamos lo mejor. 

En natación, regresamos a casa con un gran número de medallas en la Gala EIC, obteniendo un meritorio segundo puesto en la clasificación general, con algunas brillantes actuaciones en las pruebas individuales y de relevos por equipos. Nuestro equipo de natación sigue entrenando duro y esperamos tener más noticias de sus éxitos a lo largo del año. 

EYP y Debate

Swans se enorgullece de haber acogido este mes la Conferencia Nacional del Parlamento Europeo de la Juventud para España, con estudiantes de todo el país que vinieron a nuestro colegio para debatir temas que afectan a la Unión Europea. El evento fue organizado parcialmente por algunos de nuestros ex alumnos, que siguen siendo miembros de la organización y se desplazan para ayudar en los comités, incluso compaginando sus estudios universitarios. 

También volveremos a organizar el Concurso de Debate Escolar de Costa, durante el mes de noviembre, que anima a nuestros alumnos a competir contra otros colegios locales. Es impresionante ver a nuestros alumnos hablar y debatir en público con tanta autoridad y confianza. Desde aquí animo a más alumnos a participar en este tipo de eventos que ayudan al desarrollo de sus habilidades.

Espectáculo escolar

Ya se ha hecho el reparto de papeles y han comenzado los ensayos para Shrek,  el musical, que se representará en Navidad. Miss Kate, Mr Tim y su equipo están trabajando incansablemente para asegurarse de que este sea aún mejor que el del año pasado, ¡si es que eso es posible!. Los alumnos participantes pasan la mayoría de los días, después de clase, en el teatro aprendiendo y ensayando canciones y coreografías de baile. Estoy seguro de que será espectacular, así que apuntad en vuestras agendas la fecha del espectáculo, el jueves 14 de diciembre en el Palacio de Congresos de Marbella.

A propósito del espectáculo escolar, os recuerdo que diciembre será un mes sin muchos días lectivos, por lo que celebraremos nuestra Feria de Navidad el viernes 1 de diciembre. Esperamos veros a todos allí. 

A la vuelta de la semana de vacaciones, los alumnos deberán llevar todos los días la chaqueta del colegio (y el jersey si tienen frío). Os pido vuestra colaboración en este asunto y que nuestros estudiantes vengan al colegio elegantes todas las mañanas, con las faldas adecuadas, camisas metidas por dentro y corbatas bien puestas. Estas normas se aplican durante todo el tiempo que los alumnos lleven el uniforme escolar, tanto dentro como fuera del horario lectivo. Nuestros alumnos nos representan en todo momento mientras llevan el uniforme y nos reflejan tanto a nosotros como a ustedes como padres en la forma en que se retratan a sí mismos.
