Dear Parents,

The weeks have flown by since Christmas and half term approaches. I write to you from Sierra Nevada where the students in Year 10 and 12 have had a great few days in the snow and been great ambassadors for our school. Despite some changeable weather, the students in Key Stage 3 also had a good trip and I hope that you have enjoyed the photos on the Swans Facebook and Instagram accounts. 

This half term has been a key period for our examination students, who have completed their mock exams and are now entering the final phase before the real thing begins. We have had some excellent university offers for our Year 13 students, including Russell Group universities in the UK such as King's College, Bristol, York and Bath, a scholarship offer for IE University in Madrid, an offer to do medicine at the University of Navarra, and an amazing offer to study Engineering at the University of Cambridge, so there is lots of work to be done to claim these important places. We also hope that they enjoy their final weeks studying at Swans, which has been their second home for so long, and we are really going to miss them. 

We enjoyed great success at the recent debating and performance event held at the American School of Barcelona, where Gabriela Chamberlain Prieto and Cristina Aguilera in Year 12 received the gold medal for their dramatic performance and Gabriela also received a Silver medal for her impromptu speech. The competition was extremely high, in an event that we have limited experience in, but our students shone through and adapted to the challenge, as all good IB students should.

Today, the Spanish department will have treated us to Día de Andalucía, where we celebrate the culture and traditions of the region in which we live, which I am sure that everyone will enjoy, before we ended with our Roll of Honour ceremony to celebrate those students who performed so well in their December reports and recent examinations.

Can I say a huge thank you to all of the professionals that came to talk to the students in yesterday’s Careers Day fair. It was a wonderful experience for them and opened their eyes to the real world and future possibilities, especially hearing from people that are so passionate about their work. The Year 9 students will be choosing their (I)GCSE options soon so this was an invaluable experience.

There is lots to look forward to in the coming weeks, with the relaunch of the Film Festival, which I hope that you will attend, and our boys and girls entering the Mediterranean Cup football tournament in May.

Estimados padres,

Las semanas han pasado volando desde Navidad y se acerca el descanso del trimestre. Les escribo desde Sierra Nevada donde los alumnos de Year 10 y 12 han pasado unos días estupendos en la nieve y han sido grandes embajadores de nuestro colegio. A pesar de un tiempo algo cambiante, los alumnos de Key Stage 3 también tuvieron un buen viaje y espero que hayáis disfrutado de las fotos en las cuentas de Facebook e Instagram de Swans. 

Este trimestre ha sido un período clave para nuestros alumnos de exámenes, que han completado sus simulacros de exámenes y ahora están entrando en la fase final antes de que comience lo real. Hemos recibido algunas excelentes ofertas universitarias para nuestros alumnos de Year 13, incluyendo universidades del Russell Group en el Reino Unido como King's College, Bristol, York y Bath, una oferta de beca para IE University en Madrid, una oferta para hacer medicina en la Universidad de Navarra, y una increíble oferta para estudiar Ingeniería en la Universidad de Cambridge, así que hay mucho trabajo por hacer para reclamar estas importantes plazas. También esperamos que disfruten de sus últimas semanas estudiando en Swans, que ha sido su segundo hogar durante tanto tiempo, y realmente vamos a echarles de menos. 

Disfrutamos de un gran éxito en el reciente evento de debate y actuación celebrado en la Escuela Americana de Barcelona, donde Gabriela Chamberlain Prieto y Cristina Aguilera de Year 12 recibieron la medalla de oro por su actuación dramática y Gabriela también recibió una medalla de plata por su discurso improvisado. La competencia fue extremadamente alta, en un evento en el que tenemos poca experiencia, pero nuestros alumnos brillaron y se adaptaron al reto, como todos los buenos alumnos del IB deben hacer.

Hoy, el departamento de español nos ha agasajado con el Día de Andalucía, en el que celebramos la cultura y las tradiciones de la región en la que vivimos, algo que estoy seguro que todos disfrutarán, antes de terminar con nuestra ceremonia del Cuadro de Honor para celebrar a aquellos alumnos que tan buenos resultados han obtenido en sus informes de diciembre y en sus recientes exámenes.

Quiero dar las gracias a todos los profesionales que vinieron ayer a hablar con los estudiantes en la feria del Día de las Profesiones. Fue una experiencia maravillosa para ellos y les abrió los ojos al mundo real y a las posibilidades de futuro, especialmente escuchando a gente tan apasionada por su trabajo. Los alumnos de Year 9 elegirán pronto sus opciones de (I)GCSE, por lo que fue una experiencia muy valiosa.

En las próximas semanas nos esperan muchas cosas, como el relanzamiento del Festival de Cine, al que espero que asistan, y la participación de nuestros chicos y chicas en la Copa del Mediterráneo de fútbol en mayo.

Espero que todos disfruten de una semana de descanso y luego será un corto período de cuatro semanas hasta Semana Santa, así que por favor mantengan la asistencia alta, los uniformes perfectos y aprovechen al máximo cada minuto de aprendizaje.
