Dear Parents,

What a fabulous first half-term we have had!  The children arrive at school every day with a smile on their faces, eager to learn, and willing to give their best. This, combined with the enthusiasm and dedication of our teachers and parental support, ensures that all children achieve and have their time to shine in all aspects of school life.

This half-term, we have been able to support the Dental Mavericks charity, whose aim is to end daily dental pain for impoverished children in Morocco and Lebanon. We were able to collect over 300 tubes of toothpaste and toothbrushes for children in these countries. Furthermore, we were able to carry out a food drive for nonperishable foods, household cleaning products and personal hygiene for the Virgen Rocío Church in San Pedro to support over 250 local families. These efforts and support for these charities are very much needed and appreciated and we thank you for your support.

This term, the children in Years 4 and 5 have been able to join our Swim Squad and train in our secondary school pool. We were so proud when they returned from their first gala of the year,  held at EIC,  with a huge clanking haul of medals.

Thankfully, we are now leaving Covid restrictions behind so we are able to organise trips to get us back to normal.  Year 3 were fortunate enough to visit the Castellar zoo where they saw a variety of animals and even managed to touch some! It was an exciting trip in which they were able to learn more about our world and the animals within it.

Our Secondary students have already started to rehearse for the Christmas show,  ‘The Addams Family’. It will be held at the Palacio de Congresos in Marbella on Thursday 15th December. I am sure that it will be a spectacular event for young and old and I urge you to buy tickets when they become available. We will also be sending news of our Christmas Fayre, which will be making a welcome return in early December. 

Our Halloween activities ensured that this last week of school was full of fun. Aside from the activities carried out in classes, we enjoyed a Halloween disco for Year 4 and Year 5, as well as a Halloween assembly on the last day. As part of this assembly, the Headteacher’s Awards were given out and there were a variety of nominations from different classes. The decision is always very difficult. However, these three children deserve a special mention for their caring attitude, academic effort and positivity:

KS2: Sophia Maria in Miss Ruth’s class

Sadly, Miss Michelle will be retiring after 28 years at Swans. In that time, she has created a multitude of memories with students, parents and staff, and she will be greatly missed by us all. We are grateful to have had her with us for so long and we wish her the very best. 

Please note that the school will be closed from Monday 31st October to Friday 4th November. However, the office will be open except for Tuesday 1st  November from 9 - 3pm.

We look forward to welcoming the students back after the holidays for the second half of this term and the run up to Christmas. It’s a special time of year for the students and we look forward to continuing helping them learn and grow.

Estimados padres:

¡Qué fabuloso primer mitad de trimestre hemos tenido!  Los niños llegan al colegio cada día con una sonrisa en la cara, con ganas de aprender y dispuestos a dar lo mejor de sí mismos. Esto, combinado con el entusiasmo y la dedicación de nuestros profesores y el apoyo de los padres, asegura que todos los niños logren y tengan su tiempo para brillar en todos los aspectos de la vida escolar.

Esta mitad de trimestre, hemos podido apoyar a la organización benéfica Dental Mavericks, cuyo objetivo es acabar con el dolor dental diario de los niños sin recursos de Marruecos y Líbano. Hemos podido recoger más de 300 tubos de pasta y cepillos de dientes para los niños de estos países. Además, pudimos realizar una colecta de alimentos no perecederos, productos de limpieza del hogar y de higiene personal para la Iglesia del Virgen Rocío de San Pedro para apoyar a más de 250 familias locales. Estos esfuerzos y el apoyo a estas organizaciones benéficas son muy necesarios y apreciados. 

Este trimestre, los niños de Year 4 y 5 han podido unirse a nuestro equipo de natación que entrena en la piscina de nuestro instituto. Nos sentimos muy orgullosos cuando volvieron de su primera gala del año, celebrada en EIC, con un enorme botín de medallas.

Afortunadamente, ahora estamos dejando atrás las restricciones de Covid, por lo que podemos organizar viajes para volver a la normalidad.  Los alumnos de Year 3 tuvieron la suerte de visitar el zoo de Castellar, donde vieron una gran variedad de animales e incluso pudieron tocar algunos. Fue un viaje emocionante en el que pudieron aprender más sobre nuestro mundo y los animales que hay en él.

Nuestros alumnos de Secundaria ya han empezado a ensayar para el espectáculo navideño "La familia Addams". Se celebrará en el Palacio de Congresos de Marbella el jueves 15 de diciembre. Estoy segura de que será un evento espectacular para grandes y pequeños y os animo a comprar las entradas cuando estén disponibles. También os daremos noticias sobre nuestra Feria de Navidad, que regresará a principios de diciembre. 

Nuestras actividades de Halloween aseguraron que esta última semana de clases estuviera llena de diversión. Además de las actividades realizadas en las clases, disfrutamos de una fiesta de disfraces de Halloween para Year 4 y Year 5, así como de una asamblea de Halloween el último día. Como parte de esta asamblea, se entregaron los Premios de la Directora y hubo una variedad de nominaciones de diferentes clases. La decisión es siempre muy difícil. Sin embargo, estos tres niños merecen una mención especial por su actitud cariñosa, su esfuerzo académico y su positividad:

Lamentablemente, Miss Michelle nos dejará después de 28 años en Swans. En este tiempo, ha creado multitud de recuerdos con los alumnos, los padres y el personal, y todos la echaremos mucho de menos. Estamos agradecidos por haberla tenido con nosotros durante tanto tiempo y le deseamos lo mejor. 

Les informamos de que el colegio permanecerá cerrado desde el lunes 31 de octubre hasta el viernes 4 de noviembre. Sin embargo, la oficina estará abierta excepto el martes 1 de noviembre.

Estamos deseando dar la bienvenida a los estudiantes después de las vacaciones para la segunda mitad de este trimestre y el período previo a la Navidad. Es una época del año muy especial para los alumnos y estamos deseando seguir ayudándoles a aprender y a crecer.
