Swans School proudly hosted the first Costa del Sol Interschool Debate event on November 22nd 2019. We invited 4 schools to join us for a day that commenced with a public speaking tutorial by Kate Haycock, head of drama.
Teams were then divided into two tournaments, separated by Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. Subjects discussed included voting, school age, taxes and the monarchy with one team acting in support of the motion and the other assigned to refute.
Independent judging was set for each debate, with feedback provided at the end of the session.
Our guests were also invited to join us for a much-needed lunch where the students refuelled and reviewed strategy ahead of the afternoon sessions.
Whilst all teams performed incredibly well throughout the entire day, Swans and Sotogrande International Schools secured themselves seats at both finales. The final debates were well-informed and passionate on both sides, but it was Sotogrande that raised the trophy for Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.
Head of media, Rob King said "All the students were a credit to their school and we loved having everybody here at Swans. It was great to witness the rivalry and the camaraderie. We would definitely like to make this an annual event."
