Adapting to Life with COVID-19

We are pleased to say that the Swans School approach to tackling the COVID-19 pandemic has proved successful.

We would like to thank our whole community, who have been exemplary, respecting government regulations and behaving responsibly both inside and outside of school. It would be impossible to maintain these standards without the cooperation of everyone involved.

Before returning to school, our COVID-19 prevention team prepared a meticulous roadmap for safety and hygiene. This advance planning has meant that we have been able to deploy changes without the children feeling anxious or confused. In fact, and as always, the children have shown overwhelming resilience and an ability to adapt to the changes – always exceeding our hopes and expectations with their positivity and proactivity. We are so proud of them all!

Above all else, it is a pleasure to be back in school and enjoying lessons after the months of lockdown. It is with fresh energy that our youngest children develop social skills and learn about colours within the environment, whereas Reception are learning phonics outside in the warm sunshine. We are pleased to see that primary and secondary school students are still meeting and surpassing their reading targets. Year 11 students have completed the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Qualifying Adventurous Journey in El Chorro (despite adverse weather conditions). Our exam year groups are on schedule for some fantastic 2021 results, and our new Sixth Formers are busy compiling their CAS (creativity, activity, service) portfolios.

We can say with confidence that the Swans Community has adapted. We will continue to adhere to government directives and we review all new information as soon as it becomes available

Please do remember that if your child experiences any of the following symptoms, we ask that you visit a doctor before returning to school so that they can recommend whether a test is required.

  • Cough

  • Fever or chills

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Sore throat

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Diarrhea

  • Headache

  • Nausea or vomiting

A doctor’s note will be requested by the school office.

Please also be aware that if a student lives with somebody who has tested positive for COVID-19, then they must remain in quarantine for 10 days. School work can be managed via Google Classroom.

Our school protocol meets the requirements of the Ministerios de Sanidad y de Educación y Formación Profesional, y de la Consejería de Educación de la Junta de Andalucía. This framework includes, amongst many other things, the following:

  • All staff and students have their temperature checked upon entering the school building and hands are sanitised

  • Masks are worn by all staff and students in all communal areas of the school. From Year 2 masks are worn at all times except when eating, drinking or playing sport

  • Entry and exit from the school in the mornings and afternoons is staggered, using different access points

  • Students remain in their year group “bubbles” throughout the entire school day

  • Work stations are wiped down at the end of every lesson

  • Bathrooms have a reduced capacity
