MODEL UNITED NATIONS
SWANS SCHOOL SIERRA BLANCA
This year Swans has launched its very own Model United Nations.
Students from year 6 to year 13 have all been involved in this new initiative.
There are currently representatives of 24 different countries that meet on a weekly basis to discuss and debate different topics affecting the world.

We are investigating a number of different issues, these include:
- World poverty
- AIDS & HIV
- Children’s rights
- Palestine & Israel
- Environmental protection
- International conflicts
- International aid
- Iran’s nuclear programme
- Distribution of wealth
- Terrorism
And many more………
All students are encouraged to research topics and express their opinions during debates. Final resolutions are always attempted, but not always achieved.
Just like the real United Nations!
The Model UN is designed to develop the skills needed to construct logical arguments and to instill the right procedures for expressing strong views.
Older students also help to run the weekly sessions as a way to develop a sense of responsibility.
