ROLL OF HONOURGifted and talented students at Swans Secondary School are recognised and rewarded and can earn their place on the Roll of Honour Board situated at the entrance to school. Out of a total of 240 students 60, or 25% of the school, have earned the honour to be placed on the Board.
This concept was introduced only in September 2009 and initially we had 30 students who achieved grade A in 3 or more subjects which was minimum requirement. Not only has the bar been raised to a minimum of 5 grade A’s we now have students gaining 8, 9 and an astonishing 10 out of 10 grade A passes.
In International Baccalaureate Diploma a student gaining 36 or more points can qualify for the Roll of Honour and, even though this is the school first cohort to be presented, we have several students in this excellent category.
Students who are honoured celebrate through a special assembly where certificates are awarded in front of their parents and friends and after the formalities, pictures are taken by very proud parents.
Our Roll of Honour represents all our 24 nationalities in Swans and it is wonderful to see students, where English may not be their mother tongue, producing such high quality work.
Of course, not all students can make the Roll of Honour and we ensure that al levels of effort and achievement are rewarded through school certificates, prizes, displays and our merit system where students can earn points for their House and of course themselves.
