The Mathematics Department continues to go from strength to strength having finally achieved 100% IGCSE pass rate with last year’s year 11 cohort. We are also looking forward to further developing the use of technology at IB with the purchase of new graphical calculators to help our students produce high quality pieces of coursework.
Aside from the academic achievements the department continues to celebrate various activities and challenges. Thanks to the efforts of your children we recently raised over 1000 euros for the UK charity NSPCC whilst having lots of fun taking part in number day.
During April students in year 7 and 8 prepare for the UKMT maths challenge in a bid to achieve bronze, silver of gold certificates. The aim of the challenge is to enrich the education of children and young people through mathematics. The challenge then leads into a follow-on Olympiad round and the top 1200 high performing students go onto represent the UK in the International Mathematical Olympiad. Every year a team of our mathematicians join schools from the area at Laude for the Mathematics Olympiad. The teams from the last three years have done us proud.
Each term the maths department recognises the achievements of your sons and daughters. Students are nominated by members of staff in the department for Best Mathematician and Most Improved Mathematician across all the Key Stages and earning themselves a place in the Maths Hall of Fame.
In addition to all this we are continuing to offer additional support through the workshops to all our students every lunchtime and weekly afterschool.
